ATP Finals Betting Preview: – Andrey Rublev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas – Tuesday, Nov 17, 2020

Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas will go head-to-head in the second round of the 2020 ATP Finals groups, with either of them desperate to claim a victory that is likely the only solution to keep his hope to reach the semifinals alive.

All in all, excluding Challengers, Next Gen Series and exhibition events, Andrey Rublev holds a 2-1 lead in his matches against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Both players have already met twice during the 2020 season (both on clay), with Tsitsipas winning their most recent matchup – a 3-0 (7-5, 6-2, 6-3) victory in the French Open quarter-finals, while Rublev triumphed 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to beat the Greek in the final of the Hamburg Open.

Apart from an exhibition match in Abu Dhabi last December (when Tsitsipas won 2-0), Rublev emerged victorious in their last match on hard-courts as he won 6-4, 6-7, 7-6, 7-5 to beat his Greek counterpart in the first round of last year’s US Open Championship.

Andrey Rublev Betting Preview

Andrey Rublev is another player who marked his debut at the ATP Finals as the Russian enjoyed a remarkable season, having won five titles – the most by a player throughout 2020.

Since last October, the 23-years-old Rublev triumphed in six successive finals, starting from the Kremlin Cup in his hometown Moscow until his latest victory at the Vienna Open last month.

His recent run of form at the European indoor hard court swing saw him winning back-to-back titles in Saint Petersburg and Vienna, while his performance at the Paris Masters was ended early in the competition – a 6-1, 4-6, 3-6 defeat to Stan Wawrinka in the round of 16.

In his maiden appearance at the O2 Arena, Rublev had to play Rafael Nadal in the first round on Sunday and the Spaniard was convincing enough to outplay the Russian 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 19 minutes.

The aforementioned loss from Wawrinka and the one to Rafa Nadal were the first time Rublev has suffered back-to-back defeats since the resumption of the ATP Tour in August, which is an evidence of Rublev’s progress over the past twelve months.

However, the 23-years-old Russian will have another chance to reignite his winning form before the clash against Dominic Thiem on Thursday – and if he wants to go through, well, he has no choice but to win here.

Stefanos Tsitsipas Betting Preview

The reigning champion kicked off his title defense with a 2-1 (6-7, 6-4, 3-6) defeat to Dominic Thiem in a replay of last year’s final. The Greek was leading 5-3 in the first set tie-break but he eventually lost it 5-7 and even though he managed to break Thiem early on in the second set, the Austrian has shown resilience to avenge last season’s defeat.

Stefanos Tsitsipas still struggles to find his form at the European indoor hard court swing and has lost his last three matches since he mounted a comeback to beat Jan Lennard-Struff in the first round of the 2020 Vienna Open.

He has suffered three consecutive defeats since (all of them in three sets) – losing to Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria in Vienna, followed by a loss to Ugo Humbert of France in his first match at the Paris Masters, as well as the aforementioned defeat in the ATP Finals opener against Dominic Thiem.

Like his opponent, Tsitsipas has no option but to win before his match against Rafael Nadal. Otherwise, the champion will be dethroned.

Spooky Express Betting Prediction

Stefanos Tsitsipas is a -133 favorite to get the better of Andrey Rublev, whose odds of +113 with BetOnline should also be considered, given his impressive development throughout the year.

However, despite the losing streak, in our opinion Tsitsipas is the one that has the mojo to win such an important matchup at the moment and we’re backing the Greek to win here.
