- Chris Weidman was expected to fight Urijah Hall at UFC 258 on February 13.
- Reports have now confirmed that Chris Weidman’s next fight is being delayed.
- The next middleweight title challenger is still unknown.
The UFC’s middleweight division is more exciting than ever before. For months, fans have been asking to see Chris Weidman compete at 185 pounds once again. Unfortunately, Chris Weidman’s next fight has been delayed once again.
It’s a huge disappointment for fans. Weidman was once considered the best middleweight on the planet and is working towards another title shot. Today, we’ll talk about what is going on with “The All-American.”
Let’s get into it!
The UFC’s Middleweight Division is Being Left in Limbo
The UFC is unlike almost any other major sports organization out there. Unlike the NFL where the best teams are guaranteed to make their way to the championship, the UFC often gives its biggest stars the top opportunities. This has caused some issues in the middleweight division.
Israel Adesanya currently sits as the champion at 185 pounds. He’s earned that belt with some of the most incredible performances we’ve seen in the cage. Adesanya is now scheduled to move up in weight to challenge Jan Blachowicz for his light-heavyweight title.
That’s certainly an intriguing matchup. It makes things difficult for the middleweights, though. There are several men closing in on a title shot right now. It could be a year before any of them are granted that position with Israel moving up in weight.
Chris Weidman is one of the men looking for another crack at middleweight gold. He was the champion of the weight class for years before hitting a brutal losing streak. He finally rebounded with a win in August of 2020 and was expected to make a return early this year.
It now appears that Weidman will need to wait a little longer to fight again. Here’s what we know about this situation.
Reports Confirm Chris Weidman’s Next Fight is Being Delayed
2020 ended up being a massive year for the UFC. For months, the promotion was shut down and unable to hold any shows. Finally, in May, the UFC returned to action and quickly began holding world-class events on a regular basis.
Chris Weidman made his highly-anticipated return in August of 2020. Many were skeptical that he could earn a win over the surging Omari Akhmedov. It wasn’t pretty, but Chris managed to grind out a decision victory. Not long after the win, news broke that Chris would be returning to take on Urijah Hall in a rematch.
This was another exciting fight for the middleweight division. Hall had just beaten Anderson Silva and seemed to be closing in on a title fight. A win for Weidman could get him back towards the top of the heap.
Unfortunately, Chris Weidman’s next fight has officially been delayed. Chris was forced off the event on February 13 due to health reasons. The UFC is now working hard to postpone this fight to a later date. You can see ESPN MMA analyst Ariel Helwani’s Tweet about this situation below.
Chris Weidman vs. Uriah Hall is being moved. The fight, which was scheduled for UFC 258 on Feb. 13, has been canceled, sources say, after Weidman tested positive for COVID-19 recently. The current plan is for the fight to be moved to UFC 261 on April 24, according to sources.

It’s disappointing news. Fortunately, the UFC seems to be working hard to get this fight booked again as soon as possible. Now might be the perfect time to discuss what is happening with the middleweight title picture.
Who Will be Fighting for the UFC Middleweight Championship Next?
The UFC isn’t slowing down in 2021. This promotion made its return earlier this month and held three incredible events on Fight Island. That includes UFC 257, which featured Dustin Poirier’s massive upset win over Conor McGregor.
Fight fans are in for several more incredible fight cards over the next few months. That includes the aforementioned light-heavyweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Jan Blachowicz on March 6. BetOnline, one of the best online sportsbooks in the US, is offering some amazing odds on this matchup.
At the moment, Adesanya is listed as the -265 favorite. Blachowicz is currently listed as the +225 underdog. Some feel the winner will end up taking Jon Jones sometime in the future.
It now seems that the winner of the upcoming fight between Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa will be fighting for the belt next. There’s also a chance that the Darren Till vs. Marvin Vettori fight ends up bringing up the next title challenger. We’ll be sure to offer more updates on this situation over the next few weeks.
