Germany Ratifies New Gambling Regulations

Last week the Minister-Presidents of Germany have voted to ratify the new regulatory rules for the gambling industry, which will come into effect next year and see regulated online betting offered in the country.

The meeting took place remotely and occurred from October 28th to the 30th, and saw the heads voting on the different rules of operation. The treaty and rules are now being sent back into the 16 different states, where they’ll convert them into local laws so that the market can open up on July 1st, 2021. The politicians worked together to pass draft legislation in March, and it appears that the law has the blessing of the European Commission in terms of compliance with EU law.

Germany will begin offering regulated casino games like slots, table games, and poker next year, but lottery services will remain under the monopoly system under the state. Gaming licenses will be doled out to operators who meet the stipulations that are required, and it’s likely that we’ll see big names like GVC getting in on the action.
