- Both teams have scored in three of the last four league meetings between Leicester and Southampton.
- Southampton are unbeaten in four previous trips to the King Power Stadium in the Premier League.
- Leicester have won just two of their last seven Premier League home matches.
- Both teams have scored in five of Southampton’s eight Premier League away assignments this season.
Leicester missing some home comforts
Leicester City have been a potent force on the road this season, and the Foxes enjoyed some more away day success over the past week with victories at Newcastle in the Premier League and Stoke City in the FA Cup.
At the King Power Stadium however, City’s performances and results continue to frustrate, and Leicester’s return of just two wins from their last seven Premier League fixtures on their own patch is a poor record for a team with such lofty aspirations.
On Saturday, 3rd placed Leicester face another huge home test of their top four credentials against a Southampton team that has found plenty of joy at the King Power Stadium in recent seasons.
Saints well rested
Southampton will have enjoyed a full 12-days rest between fixtures by the time their game at Leicester rolls around on Saturday after the Saints’ FA Cup match against Shrewsbury Town was postponed.
Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side signed off in style on January 4 with a superb 1-0 win over Premier League champions Liverpool at St. Mary’s Stadium – a result that left the Saints handily placed in 7th spot, just three points behind Leicester.
Southampton were missing a number of key players against the Reds, including Jannik Vestergaard, Che Adams and Oriol Romeu, though the strength of Hasenhüttl’s tactical blueprint saw them home against the Merseysiders.
Goals at both ends likely
Bar that historic and anomalous 9-0 thrashing by Leicester in the early throes of the previous campaign, recent fixtures between the Foxes and Southampton have generally been keenly contested, and having seen both sides hit the net in three of the teams’ last four encounters – and we expect the net to ripple at either end again on Saturday.
With James Maddison pulling the strings, Harvey Barnes providing thrust from the left and the evergreen Jamie Vardy as sharp as eve, Leicester rarely fail to score, as evidenced by their run of notching in 16 of their last 19 fixtures in all competitions.
The hard-running Saints meanwhile, scored at least once in six of their eight Premier League away assignments this term, suffering just a single defeat in the process, and Southampton’s ability to trade blows with any host saw both teams score in a further five of those fixtures.
The factors suggest that backing both teams to score again on Saturday looks an excellent option at the prices quoted, while our 1-1 correct score prediction tips the Saints to frustrate Leicester again.
Southampton are unbeaten in four Premier League trips to the King Power Stadium, and with Leicester’s patchy home form difficult to ignore, a share of the spoils looks likely.
The Saints – who have drawn four three times in their most recent four away games – averaged 1.0 goals and conceded 0.75 times per 90 minutes across the same quartet of fixtures, and that pattern suggests a 1-1 draw is a likely outcome at the King Power Stadium.
