The Gonzaga Bulldogs will take on the Baylor Bears in a matchup of the top two ranked teams in the nation. Both teams are a perfect 3-0 on the season. The game is being referred to as a preview of the national championship game by prognosticators.
Gonzaga Bulldogs Betting Preview: Timme to Shine
The Bulldogs have already hung some impressive pelts on the wall this season, defeating Kansas and West Virginia. In the West Virginia game, they faced a team with an impressive duo of big men in Derek Culver and Oscar Tshiebwe, and while Gonzaga center Drew Timme didn’t have his best game, he still scored 17 points before fouling out.
The Bulldogs boast perhaps three of the best players at their position in Jalen Suggs at the point, Corey Kispert on the wing, and Timme at the pivot. Suggs suffered an ankle injury in the West Virginia game but returned in the second half and was still effective. At one point, Suggs climbed the ladder for a blocked shot that will end up on his highlight reel.
Corey Kisper is the sharpshooter on the team, but Joel Ayayi is also a weapon on the wing while Florida transfer Andrew Nembhard is a backup point guard that started for two seasons with the Gators.
This Gonzaga team is deep, talented, and well-coached. They will look to get up and down the floor and take Baylor out of their comfort zone. Through three games this season, they currently ranked 14th in the nation in tempo.
Baylor Bears Betting Preview: Defending the Big 12
The Baylor Bears will be the third team Big 12 team that Gonzaga has faced this season. As a power six conference member, they certainly do not want the conference to go 0-3 against a school from the West Coast Conference, even if that school is as rich in tradition as Gonzaga.
The Bears will be led by All-American candidate Jared Butler, a senior point guard that can really fill it up from the outside. Baylor, the fourth-ranked team in adjusted defensive efficiency last season, returns four of their starters this year, with the only loss being big man Freddie Gillespie.
That position has been filled by a combination of Flo Thamba and Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua. So far, the results have been good, but coach Scott Drew has played veteran Mark Vital as the small ball five at times this year.
Vital, a 6-5 senior forward, is widely regarded as one of the nation’s best defenders, while wings MaCio Teague and Davion Mitchell will look to provide scoring from the wing.
