The action in the MAC gets started Tuesday night with a game between the Buffalo Bulls and the Bowling Green Falcons. The Bulls make the trip to Ohio looking for their fourth straight win over Bowling Green after last year’s 49-7 win.
This year, these two teams have had drastically different starts to the season, creating a rather sizable mismatch, at least on paper.
Buffalo Bulls Betting Preview: Bull Power
The Bulls have shown some explosive firepower offensively early in the season, scoring over 40 points in each of their first two games. However, that’s a little misleading because the UB defense was responsible for forcing five turnovers and scoring three touchdowns in the season opener against Northern Illinois. The Buffalo offense did all of the heavy lifting in last week’s 42-10 win over Miami (Ohio).
Quarterback Kyle Vantrease has picked up where he left off last season. Through two games, he has five touchdown passes and just one interception. He’s also averaging 12 yards per pass thanks to two touchdown passes of more than 75 yards last week against Miami.
Meanwhile, the Buffalo rushing attack shined in the season opener against Miami with Jaret Patterson running the ball 20 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns. In other words, the Buffalo offense has a balanced attack, while the UB defense has done a great job of creating turnovers.
Bowling Green Falcons Betting Preview: Bowling for Peanuts
Bowling Green’s struggles after a 3-9 season in 2019 have continued under Scott Loeffler, who is in his second season with the Falcons and has a monumental task ahead of him. The Falcons have lost both of their games in lopsided fashion.
First, Bowling Green lost to Toledo 38-3 and then fell to Kent State 62-24, getting outscored 100-27 by their two biggest rivals. Needless to say, the Falcons have the worst defense in the MAC through two weeks.
Meanwhile, the Bowling Green offense is struggling to get anything going. The Falcons scored 14 of their 24 points last week in garbage time when the result of the game was no longer in question.
Quarterback Matt McDonald completed just six of his 20 passes, although he did get 105 yards out of those six completions. The silver lining is that freshman running back Terion Stewart looks like the real deal after rushing for 162 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns against Kent State.
Buffalo at Bowling Green Betting Odds & Lines
MyBookie has Buffalo as a 30-point favorite over Bowling Green. Even for a college game, this kind of spread is quite substantial. However, with Bowling Green losing each of its first two games by over 30 points, it’s understandable.

It’s never easy to lay down this many points, but it’s clear that Bowling Green isn’t at the same level as the rest of the MAC. Even Kent State’s backup quarterback was moving the ball with success against the Falcons last week.
Bowling Green is more than capable of giving up enough points to lose by more than 30 points. More importantly, the Buffalo offense has the balance and explosiveness to take advantage of such a porous defense.
