The Wolfpack will be playing their first game after they had numerous coronavirus tests before their game against Virginia Tech. The Demon Deacons had no time to wait as they lost to number one ranked Clemson 37-13 in the season opener.
NC State is coming off a 4-8 season, but should be back to a healthy squad after a lot of players are done with quarantine. Wake Forest has won the last three meetings between the schools.
Demon Deacons See Positives in Loss to Clemson
Let’s be honest Wake Forest did not have much of a chance against the Tigers. For Demon Deacons bettors they loved the Wake Forest squad as they covered against Clemson and did not look bad doing so.
Sam Hartman was 11 of 21 for 182 yards and did not throw a touchdown or an interception. Three quarterbacks played in the game but it remains likely that Wake Forest will stick with Hartman as the starter as no one stood out.
The Clemson defense was too much for the Wake Forest offensive line as the run game did absolutely nothing. They only managed 37 yards on 34 carries for a lowly average of 1.1 yards per carry. Christian Beal-Smith led the team with 29 yards on 11 carries.
Freshman receiver Taylor Morin looks like he is going to be a special player for the Demon Deacons. He caught 9 balls for 93 yards and a touchdown.
The Demon Deacons defense looked bad allowing 561 yards of total offense, but who wouldn’t against Clemson. They did put pressure on Trevor Lawrence as they came away with 3 sacks.
Wolfpack Look to Bounce Back After Rough 2019 Season
NC State responded to a disappointing 4-8 record in 2019 by bringing in two new coordinators in Tim Beck (offense) and Tony Gibson (defense). What exactly changes on both sides of the ball remains to be seen.
Devin Leary struggled at quarterback last season but he returns almost all of his weapons from last season. How Beck uses those weapons remains to be seen.
The Wolfpack defense should be much improved from last season as they also return almost all key contributors. Isiah Moore will be the leader of the group who will have their hands full with a Demon Deacons offense that is much better than it looked against Clemson.

Wake Forest will be the sharper of the two teams in the first half with having the upper hand of playing last week. NC State’s offense will be able to put up some points against this Wake Forest team and they do enough to come away with a season opening victory.
