NCAA Football Betting Preview: Florida Atlantic Owls vs. Southern Miss Tigers – Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020

After a loss to Georgia Southern, FAU might have thought their chances at a Conference USA Championship were over. But, thanks to Rice’s upset win over Marshall, the Owls still have a chance.

Southern Mississippi, on the other hand, is just wanting this season to be over. The Golden Eagles are 2-7 and 1-4 in conference play. Southern Miss has been close the last two weeks losing to UTSA and Western Kentucky by a combined six points after beating North Alabama, who is winless on the season.

Florida Atlantic Owls Betting Preview: Offensive Woes

If you haven’t seen an Owls game this season, you are not missing much offense. FAU games have had some of the lowest scoring totals in all of college football.

The Owls defense holds opponents to only 12 points per game. Unfortunately, the offense only averages 18 themselves.

Javion Posey and Nick Tronti have been splitting the quarterbacking duties. It looks like it is Tronti’s job after a poor performance by Posey against Georgia Southern. Tronti has completed 56-of-102 passes for 597 yards with four touchdowns and an interception.

Posey has been the team’s leading rusher with 393 yards on 54 carries with three touchdowns. The Owls do the majority of their damage on the ground, where they are averaging 188 yards a game.

The Owls defense has been one of the best in the nation. They are limiting their opponents to just under 300 yards a game.

Last week’s game against Georgia Southern is only the second time a team has scored 20 points against them. Marshall was the only other team to score that many, but they could only get to exactly 20 themselves.

Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles Betting Preview: Could be Outmatched

Unlike the Owls, the defense has been the issue for Southern Mississippi. The Golden Eagles are allowing over 400 yards of total offense and 32 points per game.

Quarterback Jack Abraham has led a solid attack. He has completed 97-of-149 for 1,229 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions.

The running attack is led by Frank Gore Jr., who has carried the ball 112 times for 597 yards with a touchdown.

The Owls are just a better team. They should come out hungry and take care of a disappointing Southern Miss team.

The Golden Eagles may not score more than 10 points, and even this uninspiring FAU offense should be able to put up at least 20. The play here is the Owls -8.5
