The 49ers are in the midst of maybe the biggest “Superbowl hangover” ever. They went from 13-3 division champions, first overall seed and home field advantage in the playoffs to being 6-9 and eliminated from playoff contention. Injuries didn’t help their cause but this is still a monumental collapse.
Seattle may be past their “Legion of Boom” status but they are still the most consistent team in the NFL as this is the third straight season they have double digit wins. Quarterback Russell Wilson had some ups and downs all year but he has turned a switch just in time for their playoff push.
San Francisco Betting Preview: Superbowl hangovers are real
The 49ers had high hopes for this season but early week 2 injuries to defensive stars Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas quickly derailed a promising season. Quarterback Jimmy Garropolo also had an up and down season and battled several injuries during this season. The injury they absolutely felt the most and couldn’t overcome was the long 6-week absence of Tight End George Kittle.
Even more injuries piled up with Wide receiver Deebo Samuel, Running back Raheem Mostert, and Cornerback Richard Sherman all missing extended periods of time. It has been a lost season for the 9ers for most of the year but they have a chance to mess with the NFC playoff picture with a win against Seattle.
Seattle Seahawks Betting Preview: Let Russ cook
The Seahawks are coming off their first division championship in 2 seasons and with a record of 11-4 they could still get a top two seed in the NFC playoff picture. With a win and a Saints loss in week 17 the Seahawks could jump to the number 2 seed and play the 7 seed or the last team to get in the playoff picture.
Russell Wilson has had a great season but has cooled down as of late and that’s the only reason I can think of as to why he’s not in the MVP conversation. He has 38 touchdowns and 13 interceptions as opposed to Aaron Rodgers who has 44 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions on the season. Russ hasn’t played bad by any means, Rodgers has just played better
MyBookie has the opening odds set at Seahawks -5.5 and -275 on the moneyline with an over under of 46.5.
With the Seahawks and Packers both winning last week, this means that Green Bay hasn’t totally locked up the first seed. As they sit at 12-3 and Seattle sits at 11-4, if Seattle wins and Green Bay loses, Seattle would take over the number 1 seed and depending on what the Saints do the Packers could find themselves in the 3rd seed instead of the 1 seed.
