NFL Super Bowl LV Betting Preview: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It’s all come down to this. A football season filled with unpredictability and uncertainty has reached its finale, and on February 7 the Kansas City Chiefs square off with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. Kickoff from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida is scheduled for 6:30pm EST on CBS.

The Chiefs represent the AFC as the conference’s top seed, while the Bucs advanced to the title game as the NFC’s 5-seed. These two teams met in Week 12 where Kansas City jumped out to a 17-0 lead and held on for a 27-24 win in Tampa.

Kansas City Chiefs Betting Preview: Run It Back

The Chiefs will look to become the first repeat champions since the New England Patriots in 2003-04, led, of course, by Tom Brady. KC advanced by virtue of their playoff wins over the Browns and Bills, failing to cover against Cleveland but easily covering the number as 3-point chalk against Buffalo in a two-touchdown victory.

In the 18 games that the Chiefs have played, they’re just 8-10 ATS, becoming just the fifth team all-time to reach the Super Bowl with a losing record against the spread. Of the previous four, only the 2012 Baltimore Ravens won the game outright. Kansas City opened as the favorite (+400) to win the Super Bowl prior to the regular season and three of the last four championships were won by the preseason favorite.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Preview: Bucs & The GOAT

You’ve seen most of the stats by now but it’s still astounding to note that Tom Brady is making his 10th Super Bowl appearance, going 6-3 in his previous nine. He has led the Bucs to the big dance in his first year in the NFC, knocking off the likes of Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers along the way. And now Tampa becomes the first team to ever play a Super Bowl in their home stadium.

This will mark just the second time Tom Brady has been an underdog in a Super Bowl, leading the Patriots to a 3-point win over the Rams as 14-point dogs in 2002, Brady’s first Super Bowl ever.

Chiefs vs. Buccaneers Betting Odds & Lines

The line originally opened with the Chiefs as 3-point favorites, fluctuating between 3 and 3.5 since Sunday night. At publish time, MyBookie has KC as 3.5-point chalk, with an over/under of 56.5. It’s worth noting that favorites have covered three of the last four Super Bowls and are 27-25-2 all-time.

At the quarterback position alone, this is a dream matchup. The greatest of all time against, arguably, the greatest today. Old age and treachery against youth and skill. Of course, there is a lot more to this matchup then just the qbs, and we’ll be getting to all that over the next week and a half.

But for now, the torch stays where it is. Brady has been a playoff underdog nine times in his career, with two of those instances coming over the last two weeks. He’s now 6-3 SU and ATS after knocking off the Saints and Packers and on February 7, he gets ring number 7.
